Here is a short history of the Church. A more concise history of the church along with the minutes has been compiled by member James Clark.
Prior to the construction of the current church, they worshiped in a small log structure which was located in the field now across the highway from the present structure.
Available records indicate that the Rock Springs Primitive Baptist Church was organized about the second Saturday in September of 1843. It was admitted to the Red Bird Association in that same year.
The Church withdrew from that association in 1850 after a disagreement between a Preacher by the name of H.S. McDowell and Robert Hays and his wife and George Morris and his church. The church felt Hays and McDowell had made due satisfaction to the church (Flat Lick) and were yet refused a seat of fellowship by the clerk.
Membership as contained in the minutes commencing with the year of 1850 include, James Anglin, John Anglin, Abraham Phillips, M.C. Hughes, James A McGuire, William Evans, John Abner, Thomas Marsee, William Morris, Lewis Sandlin, Elisha Bowman, Benjamin Marsee, James Hurst, Joab Cook, William Clark, James Miracle, John Browning, Anderson Boles, Jane Anglin, Clary Anglin, Elizabeth Phillips, Elizabeth Hughes, Janes Smith, Elizabeth McGuire, Mary Evans, Polly Radford, Clary Hill, Margaret P. Reynolds, Nancy J. Abner, Mary Long, Nancy Marsee, Lucy Bowles, Maragret Morris, Sally Sandlin, Margaret Smith, Dolly McCollum, Thurssey Woods, Mary Rookhard, Martha Gilbert, Mary Sparks, Sarah Cook, Sarah Nigh and Dawson Rader.
In 1852, M. C. Hughes was serving as Church Clerk with Thomas Marcey as Moderator. In June of that year, W. Herd came to the church asking the aid of Brother Marcey for the ordination of a Deacon at the Sexton's Creek Church.
In August of 1852, W. Anderson became Moderator of the church and served in this position until 1854. In October of 1853, William Culton served as Moderator for one session.
Delegates to the Association in 1854 included: William Evans, Elisha Bowman, James Anglin, and John Abner.
