FROM THE MINUTES OF THE ZION CHURCH
“According to a previous request made to the Spencer (Campton Baptist Church) Church by the undersigned Brethren and sis we have this day organized and constituted into a church of the Regular Baptist Order of Jesus Christ, called the Zion Church on the South Fork of the Kentucky River, the Brethren and Sisters given all gospel power requisite for the government of the church of Christ this 3rd Saturday of November, 1853.

December, 1853: Met at the home of Harvey Hall
March, l854 Met at home of Harvey Hall. Changed name from Regular to United
April 1854 Met at Harvey Halls. Voted to hold communion in May & October
May 1854 Met at Harvey Halls. James Roberts elected Treasurer.
August, 1854 Met at the school house at James: Thomas’s. George Bowling received the forgiveness of the church after confessing a wrong.
October, 1854 Met at Andrew Steele’s. Members received were: Elias Morris, George Bowling and Phoebe Bowling.
November, 1854 Met at James Roberts. Letters and messengers approved to be sent to the Mount Olivet Church to request Ministerial Aid of Brothers Thomas White and William Richardson with George Bow1in and Andrew Steele to bear the message.
December, 1854 Met at James Roberts. The Church called J. D. Spencer as Moderator and William Richardson and Thomas White as Assistant Moderators.
January, 1855 Met at the home of Harvey Hall. Thomas Carroll served as Moderator.
March, 1855 Met at the school house on Olen Branch. William Richardson served as Moderator.
April, 1855 Met at Harvey Halls. Church extended an arm to the vicinity of Stephen Gumm in Owsley County. William Richardson served as Moderator. The Arm is New Hope Baptist Church)
May, 1855 Met at Harvey Halls. Thomas Carroll is chosen as Moderator for the meeting. Motion and second that the petition made by the “arm” be granted and an examining committee be sent.
June, 1855 Church unanimously agrees to ordain Harvey Hall to the Minis try with John D. Spencer and John Parsons to serve as the Presbytery. Motion that Brothers Carroll and Thomas bear the letter to the Gilead Church with Brothers Hall and Steel to prepare the letter.
July, 1855 Met at James Roberts. Mount Gilead had refused the request of the church that Brother Parsons act as one of the Presbyter and agreed that Thomas Carroll do the work assigned Brother Parsons.
August, 1855 Met at the schoolhouse on Olen Branch.
September, 1855 Met at the Schoolhouse on Olen Branch. William Richardson dismissed as Asst. Moderator. Harvey Hall elected to take his place. Howell Bates granted a letter of dismiss ion.
October, 1855 Met at the school house on Olen Branch. New Hope requested Ministerial Aid of Harvey Hall to ordain a Deacon. Permission granted. Patrick Hamilton granted a letter of dismiss ion. H. Hall serves as Moderator.
January, 1856 Met at school house on Olen Branch. George Bowling cited for not attending church. Adopts this Rule of Decorum with Amendments.
March, 1856 Met at James Thomas’s. Reference against Brother Bowling laid over until the next meeting.
April, 1856 Met at Harvey Halls. Church forgives Brother Bowling on his acknowledgement.

June, 1856 Met at the School house on Olen Branch. A group petitioned for the services of Harvey Hall to form a presbytery in the forming of a Baptist Church. They had received letters from Mount Gilead Church. Permission granted. (Royal Oak Baptist Church in Owsley County). Church agreed to travel for a Deacon
July, 1856 G. H. Howell called as a Deacon with J. D. Spencer and Harvey Hall to serve as Presbytery.
November, 1856 Providence Church requested aid of Harvey Hall. Aid granted.
January, 1857 Met at Aaron Halls.
February, 1857 Church continues to travel for a Deacon.
March, 1857 Met at B. H. Halls
April, 1857 Met at James Thomas’s. Reference of G. Howell laid over to next meeting. New Hope Church requests aid of H. Hall. The petition is granted.
July, 1857 Met at J. Roberts. Brother Carroll stood as Moderator. Motion and second to postpone sending delegates to assist in the formation of a new association.
October, 1857 Brother Howell received forgiveness of the church on his acknowledgement.
December, 1858 Met at Brother Halls. James Thomas elected Clerk.
July, 1859 Church voted to let Brother Hall give part of his time to the Bethlehem Church.
August, 1859 Elias Fletcher stood as Moderator.
September, 1859 H. Hall serves as Moderator. Met at the school house on Olen Branch.
September, 1860 Met at the Crossroads in Owsley County.

November, 1862 Matter of a difference between Sister Porter arid Sister Ogg brought up and referred to the next meeting.

August, 1865 Marg Evans excluded for failing to fill her seat. August, 1866 Met at Buffalo. Joel Brandenburg appointed Clerk.

October, 1866 Travel for a deacon continues.
May, 1867 Met at home of Harvey Hall. Joel Brandenburg elected Deacon and released as Church Clerk. J. M.Roberts appointed Clerk.
June, 1867 Harvey Hall Moderator. Thomas Wells licensed to the Ministry.

April, 1874 Church calls Alfesso Hall to come and preach for them

August, 1878 Messengers to the Association are: Joel Brandenburg, Hardin Brandenburg, Aaron Hall, and Harvey Hall.
November, 1881 James Brown granted license to preach. J. H. Brandenburg, Clerk.
August, 1882 Delegates to the Association are: J. M. Brandenburg, Harvey Hall, John Hall, and Harden Brandenburg. Elder H. P. Hall was to write the letter.
October, l893 R. L. Brandenburg, Clerk and G. B. Thacker, Moderator
November, 1893 H. P. Hall reported on the work of the Booneville Association. The question of Mountain Missions was brought up and the church is to consider whether it would contribute to this cause.
August, 1893 R. L. Brandenburg chosen Clerk.
December, l893 Church votes to support missions with special offerings.
March, 1894 Paul Woods granted a letter of dismission.
August, 1895 Church votes to move from Buffalo Creek in Lee County to Fish Creek in Owsley County. The vote was unanimous. W, C. Lutes is Clerk Pro-Tern.
October, l895 The following were excused for joining a Campbellite Church: H. Smith, V. T. Bailey, and Fanny Bowman. Z. N. Pigg is Moderator.
November, 1895 Walter Evans and H. L. Brandenburg were granted license to preach.
August, 1894 Church met to consider the bulling of a church.
December, 1895 W. C. Lutes, Jr. elected Deacon and ordained at that meeting by G. W. Kincaid who was present.

August, 1896 Church votes to build on a tract owned by Bill Hall. Trustees elected were: Simpson Brandenburg, W. C. Lutes, Jr., and Harvey Hall with a deed to be made to them and their successors. A Building Committee consisted of: T. J. McGuire, J. C. Hall, William Hall, Jr., R. W. Brandenburg, Harden Brandenburg and W. C. Lutes, Jr., $190 was pledged toward the construction cost of the building. A Subscription committee appointed to serve included: R. L. Brandenburg, Charles Brandenburg, Charles Hall, Brownlow Hall, Jesse K. Evans, H. H. Busmall, W. C. Evan Millie Brandenburg, Mattie Brandenburg, Sophia Becknell Sarah Hall, Silabett Evans, Cordelia Hall, Ella McGuire, and H. L. Brandenburg appointed Chairman. Hardin Brandenburg appointed Chairman of the Building Committee.
July 1897 Church met at Halls Chapel.
June, 1897 Church calls A. G. Coker as Pastor.
July, 1897 Met at Fish Creek in Owsley County. Motion and second that the church be moved to the new place of worship in Owsley County.
August, 1897 The church met in its new house. H. P. Brandenburg, Clerk
December, l897 Church voted to receive no more new members on Alien Baptism.

August, 1903 Church withdraws from Booneville Association and enters the Boones Creek Association.
April, 1903 C. A. Dogger is pastor.

November, 1905 Four members are dismissed to enter into a new church at Heidelberg.
February, 1907 J. G. Parsons is the pastor.

November, 1919: Church reorganized by Rev. J. T. Turpin. H. P. Brandenburg elected Clerk. Charles Hall and Charles Brandenburg elected Deacons.
November, 1920 T. P. Edwards becomes Pastor.
NOTE
From 1920 onward, Pastors of the Beattyville Baptist Church often supplied the pulpit of the Zion Baptist Church until 1956 when the Zion church met and voted request the Beattyville Church to assume Zion as a mission. C. H. Brandenburg served as Moderator of the meeting with Oma Osborne serving as Clerk. The Church at Beattyville voted favorably to the request and the membership of Zion Baptist Church were received into Beattyville Baptist.
