James Walter Thomas

Beattyville Enterprise, Dec. 12, 1968

Booneville — Walter Thomas, 88, [actually aged 90, born Aug 17, 1878, to Elisha Thomas and Elizabeth "Betty" Bowman], died at 7 a.m. Wednesday at his home after a long illness. He was a native of Owsley County, a retired farmer, and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.

[In 1898 he married Malinda "Linda" Sizemore (b. 1882, d. July 14 1961) and they had the following children: Chester b. 1899, Maggie b. 1901, Dora b. 1902/03, Daisy b. 1907, Nellie b. 1910, Cora Belle b. 1913, and Ruford b. 1916.]

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Daisy Marshall and Mrs. Cora Bowling of Booneville, and Mrs. Nellie Marshall of Taft; 32 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Bowling, by the Rev. Dale Roberts. Burial will be in the Griffith Cemetery [where other members of the family are buried]. The body has been taken to the residence from the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home.
