Owsley County Courier, Friday, 15 April 1938
Richmond, April 11
H. [Henry] BOYD SANDLIN, 45, [born March 26, 1893 in Jackson County] noted Federal prohibition officer during repeal days, died early this morning at the Pattie A. Clay Infirmary of Hodgkin disease, a rare blood-stream malady. Although he raided them for sixteen years, Mr. Sandlin was never considered an enemy by moonshiners.
He was best known in Central and Eastern Kentucky, and had been in the Federal service since 1922. After repeal, he served as investigator for the alcohol division of the Department of Justice. His headquarters were in Lexington, but he maintained his home in Richmond.
He served overseas with the A. E. F., and was a member of the Jesse M. Dykes Post of the American Legion. He also was a member of the First Christian Church and the Junior Order. He was a native of Madison County [This is an error since he was born in Jackson County].
Mr. SANDLIN [died April 11, 1938 in Madison County] is survived by his wife Mrs. Mamie HUNTER Sandlin; a daughter, Miss Elizabeth SANDLIN; his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. J. M.[James M. and Nancy Ledford] SANDLIN two sisters, Mrs. James RAMSEY and Mrs. Zack WHICKER, and two brothers, Carl SANDLIN and Charles SANDLIN, the latter of Cincinnati.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the grave in Richmond Cemetery
