Obituary

Ethel Malinda Jackson

[Ethel] MALINDA JACKSON [daughter of John Hunt Jackson and Sarah Sally Jackson] was born December 22, 1834 [in Russell County, VA] and died at her home [in Travellers Rest, Owsley County] March 4, 1924 at 6:00 P.M. She was married to her husband James E. Jackson on September 6, 1850. She united with the Methodist Church while a girl and during all the years of her life she was as faithful as it is possible for a woman in this imperfect state to live.

In her death, her children [Jefferson M., Martha Jane, Julia, Ella M., George W., Sarah A., and Charles] have lost a kind and loving mother. Her grandchildren, a dear grandmother, and the church a true member.

Her death followed after five months of suffering and continued bed fast, but when death came it found her ready and she left bright evidence that she died triumphant.

Her home has always been a house of prayer but her voice will no more be heard in fervent prayer. Her place in the family circle is vacated. Her form will be seen in active life no no more. But our loss is her eternal gain and while we have done all we can for her and laid her body in the tomb.

"Earth to earth, dust to dust, ashes to ashes" - her spirit has gone to God who gave it, and she is basking in the sunshine of God's presence, may it be ours to meet her in the Beautiful Beyond. "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him".

"Asleep in Jesus, peaceful rest
Whose waking is supremely blessed;
No fear, no woe shall dim that hour
That manifests the Savior's power"

[Burial was in the Warren Cemetery, Vincent, Owsley County, KY]
