John Bowman was my mother, Bessie Bowman Spence's first cousin.

John Tye Bowman, age 86, of Hamilton, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at Hamilton. Born in Endee, Ky., on August 8, 1916, he was the son of John H. Bowman and Nancy (Botner) Bowman.

On March 11, 1937, John married Alice Sarah Buzzard. To this union was born Shirley Jean Smith-Holcomb and her husband Arley of Camden, Ohio. Carolyn Sue Willis and Richard Messelling of Hamilton, three grandchildren, David Wayne Smith and his wife Peggy, Kenneth Dale Smith and Christy Lea Schultz and her husband Gary; two great-grandchildren, Ricky Wayne Napier, Jr., and Joshua Adam Napier.

John was employeed at Beckett Paper Company for 33 years retiring in 1977. John attended Immanuel Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and he loved his grandchildren.

Mr. Bowman is also survived by his wife of over 65 years, Alice Sarah Bowman: sisters, Mattie Hooker of Middletown, and Arlene Lagedrost of Clearwater, Florida: and one brother, Oscar Bowman and his wife Betty of Hamilton. John was preceded in death by his parents: sisters, Grace Creech, Carrie Burke, Myrtle Wallace and Nettie Robinson; and two brothers, James and Henry Bowman.

Funeral services will be held at Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Ross Avenue and South "D" Street, Hamilton, at 10:a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2003 with Pastor Mark Wurzelbacher and Pastor Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM ti 8:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff at Westover Extended Care and special thanks to April, Jamie, Danile, Tina and Kim "Tim" of Westover, They also extend their thanks and appreciation for the special care that was given by everyone at Hospice of Hamilton.
