Fred W. Gabbard

Military Service: Sergeant in the U. S. Army Combat Engineers during WW II, (1942-1945). European Theater of operations in the First Army. Combat Engineers. Campaigns:

1. Normandy Invasion
2. Northern France
3. Rhineland
4. Central Europe
5. St. Lo. France Break Through.

Five battle stars, purple heart. Wounded in Action. Past commander of the American Legion of Owsley County. Received the Croix de guerre (French Cross of War).

Fred W. Gabbard was born on December 25, 1908 in Owsley County and died on October 3, 1981 in Booneville, Owsley County. He was the son of Wilson Gabbard and Matilda Williams. He married Dr. Mildred Burton Gabbard.

Fred was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, and a teacher and Superintendent of Owsley County Schools until his retirement in 1976.
